Tea vs Coffee Around the World

Tea vs Coffee Around the world

In a global scale, hands down coffee really dominates but if we talk about each country’s allegiance, tea is still the preferred beverage of choice in many countries. These countries include the United Kingdom, Russia, Ireland, Australia and some Asian countries like China, India, and Japan.

The list above may vary due to cultural tradition, trend, season, and other factors. For example in the United States, Americans consume three times more coffee (75%) than tea (25%), while in the United Kingdon it's the other way around. In China, it seems like they don't even know what a coffee looks and tastes like, :) with only 1.1% of coffee consumption against 98.9% of tea. That means out of 100 individuals only one drinks coffee. I guess that has something to do with the history of tea and how it was discovered. As what we have mentioned in our previous blog, tea was discovered a long, long time ago in China.

In the Philippines, it may seem coffee dominates the general public due to aggressive coffee marketing and coffee plantation itself is a huge local industry. But if you go to the local malls, you'll notice there are more tea brewing shops than coffee shops. Iced tea is as popular as a Spider (coke float) and way cheaper than a cup of coffee from a well-known coffee shop that has a green circle logo and a "Star" in it.

Here is some coffee versus tea statistics in some countries.

Though we have already discussed some of these in our previous blog, here are some of the benefits of drinking tea and coffee. I know it may sound like I'm a bit biased, but don't get me wrong I love coffee and I drank coffee on a daily basis before. But with my current lifestyle, I prefer tea rather than coffee but that’s just me. Whether you prefer tea or coffee, they’re both good for you.
